Architect Charged with Two More Murders in Long Island Serial Killer Case
The Long Island beach killer, Rex Heuermann, was charged with two more killings, bringing the total to at least six victims. Prosecutors revealed a chilling “planning document” used by Heuermann to carry out the slayings, detailing his meticulous planning and clear intent to hunt down and kill his victims.
The document, titled “HK2002-04,” included sections for “problems,” “supplies,” “DS” (dump site), and “TRG” (target), indicating Heuermann’s methodical blueprint for his kills. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney described the document as a tool used by Heuermann to locate, control, and ultimately kill his victims.
Heuermann was arrested last July in New York City and originally charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Lynn Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes. The victims were among several found around Gilgo Beach, cases that had remained unsolved for over a decade.
One of the newly charged victims, Jessica Taylor, disappeared in 2003 while working as an escort in New York City. Her remains were found in two separate incidents, with her body mutilated to inhibit identification. Sandra Costilla, the other newly charged victim, was found with horrific postmortem wounds in 1993.
Heuermann, who appeared in court wearing a suit and tie with his hands handcuffed behind his back, pleaded not guilty to the new charges. He was ordered to remain behind bars without bail, with his next court date set for July 30.
The chilling details of Heuermann’s alleged crimes have shocked the community, as investigators continue to uncover the extent of his heinous acts. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk beneath seemingly ordinary facades.
